Lawlor and Licht Lead Huntingdon Valley Past First Place Horsham 6-3

Huntingdon Valley (HV) played a near perfect game tonight while defeating first place Horsham 6-3. HV received a complete game from Cheltenham Sophomore Matthew Lawlor (7 innings pitched, 8 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts) and an all around super game from Lower Moreland Senior Jared Licht (2 for 2, 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 4 stolen bases).

HV, coming off a tough loss the night before at the hands of Fort Washing, jumped out early in the 1st inning while scoring 3 runs. Licht lead off with a walk, he then stole and scored on a single off the bat from the teams leading hitter Nick Rittler (2 for 4). After a Jesse Goldstein infield single, HV's team captain Jake Madnick sacrificed them both to 2nd and 3rd. Abington's Chris Ruhl drove them both home with a single up the middle to make the score 3-0. HV turned the lead over to Lawlor who really was only in trouble in the 2nd inning when he worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs to only give up 1 run.

Paul Buckley drove in the 4th run with a key 2 out single scoring Ruhl who singled and stole second with 2 outs. The 5th run for HV was scored by LaSalle's Rich Brazukas (1 for 2) when he scored on a single by Licht. The 6th run was also with 2 outs when Licht, yet again, singled and stole 2nd base. Rittler then drove him in with a gaping double.

Lawlor gave up single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 7th innings and was in complete control the entire night.

"Well we are now 7 games into the season and it is someone different every night" Head Coach Evan Horn said "We are playing really tough baseball, Horsham is the best team in the league (7-2 record) and we came out not scared at all and played HV baseball, single, steal a base and drive him in" Horn continued "Lawlor pitched like a true veteran tonight, he wasnt nervous and really picked us up, he was flat out awesome" Horn continued to give his pitcher praise "The kid smiled between innings and really had the team at ease, what a great job Lawlor did tonight he gave it his all and a pound of crispy bacon, I'm looking forward to coaching him for the next 3 seasons thats for sure"

"Our leadership is awesome, Licht, Goldstein and Madnick have been great, they come to play every game like its their last and it is starting to show with the results in the win colum. HV is having fun!!!"

HV plays Friday night away at The Morelanders when it sends team Ace Brian Camp(3-0) to bump.
