Jake Yannessa (6 IP, 2 Hits, 5 K's, ER) pitched Huntingdon Valley (HV) to its first playoff berth in almost 10 years while beating Warminster 3-1 on Tuesday night. Yannessa, who didn't have his "A" game, danced and worked out of trouble in helping HV conquer its first goal on their list and that is making the playoffs.
"At the beginning of every season you set goals" Coach Evan Horn said, "Jake Madnick (Team Captain) and myself had a talk about what we wanted to do this season and the first of our 3 goals was was to make the playoffs. With that done we are going to move onto the 2nd goal and that is to win 15 games (12). The 3rd goal is our untimate goal and that is bring a championship to Huntingdon Valley"
HV scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning when both Lou Palmer (1 for 3, RBI) and twin brother Cal Palmer (0 for 1, RBI) drove in runs. After a single by team slugger Matt Meyers (1 for 4, run scored) and team captain Jake Madnick (1 for 3, RBI, Run scored) the Palmers did their job and drove in runs.
HV scored its 3rd and final run of the game in the 3rd inning when Yannessa (2 for 4, Double, Run Scored) drove a double to left field and came around to score when Madnick drove him in.
Warminster didn't quit and had runners on base just about every inning. HV used a huge bases loaded double play when with 1 out Warminster attended a suicide squeeze that turned into a double play.
"They didn't quit that is for sure" Horn said, "They ane not having a great season but you wouldn't have known that by the performance they put together today. Rick (Warminster Head Coach Rick Penacle) does a great job for Warminster and like I said in the past beating him is an honor"
HV turned the ball over to team closer Paul Buckley in the 7th inning who set down Warminster 1-2-3 to earn his league leading 7th save.
"Having Buck (Buckley) to close games has been a huge part of our teams success this season. We try and get the starters to pitch to the 6thand then we turn the ball over to Buck" Coach Horn said, "I'm sure that the 7 saves is a team history record and might be a league record as well. Buck wants the ball to close out games"
HV plays HOME on Thursday against a tough Southampton team who is battling for a playoff berth.
