Huntingdon Valley has 9 total players on All League Team

Huntingdon Valley (HV) had 9 total players named to the All-American Legion Team tonight. Leading the way as 1st teamers for HV is Philadelphia University Freshman and team Captain Jake Madnick (catcher), Lower Moreland High School Senior Lou Palmer (DH), Penn State Abington Freshmen Jesse Goldstein (Outfield) and Germantown Friends Senior Nick Rittler (Outfield).

"Anytime you have 4 First Team All-League players on one team it makes you think that you might have had a better record then you ended up with but in this case it isnt the fact" Coach Evan Horn said, "Jake played with 100% fire and heart this season and deserved any award that could be given to any player. Jake wears his heart on his sleeve and I just love the way he became a leader this season. Lou started off slow but really kicked it in to gear the second half of the season. Lou started to believe in his ability and the results came after. Jess was one of our team MVP's. He really improved over the season and the best part about his season was the incredible defense he played every game. Nick was a huge surprise for me. He didnt start the season as a starter but when given a chance took complete control of his chance and ran with it all the way to 1st team honors"

HV also placed 2 players as 2nd Team All-League players. Penn State Abington Sophomore Brian Camp (pitcher) and Penn State Altona Freshman Jared Licht (Shortstop)

"Our 2 second team players could have easily been first team players but they where up against some really good players" Horn continued "Jared was another one of them players who just always is looking to learn the game and get better. Jared is a truly a great player and yet a better person, he will be impossible to replace next season. Brian was our team MVP and came in 3rd for league's MVP as well. Brian was a bull dog on the mound and gave me everything you could on the field. Brian grew as the season went on and developed the pitching mind that makes pitchers become really good pitchers"

HV received 3 Honerable Mentions as well. Lower Moreland Senior Ross "Chips" Goodman (Pitcher), Lower Moreland Senior Cal Palmer (Second Base) and Abington High School Senior Chris Ruhl (1st Base).

"Chips (Ross) was all I thought he would be" Horn said "He pitched every 3rd game and was really cheated out of about 4 wins. He never really got any run support. Cal was as steady as you can be in the field. Cal made just about every play in the field and its nice to say before a ball is hit that you hope it goes to him because you know the play is over. His hitting was consistant all season. Chris was a great team leader that seemed to excel at the coaching style of mine. Chris a always on the top of his game and never let anything bother him. He is going to be a huge part of next seasons team"

HV is off until it goes to Rehoboth Beach for a tournament on Friday Aug 5th-7th

Huntingdon Valley Plays Yardley-Morrisville to a 4-4 Tie in Scrimmage

Huntingdon Valley (HV) played Yardley-Morrisville (YM) in a Non-League American Legion Game on Thursday night to a 4-4 tie. Each team used most of their pitchers in the game for an inning or two and the game was very competitive.

"When you have two teams from two different leagues you just dont know what to expect" Coach Evan Horn said "They are a well coached team with many good players so it was nice to see my boys battle with them from the first pitch to the last"

HV used pitchers Brian Camp and Matt Lawlor for 2 innings each and Ross "Chips" Goodman for 1 2/3. Robert Hoffman closed the game out with the final out.

"I wanted to see all my pitchers throw the pill today and we closed the door with Hoff (Robert Hoffman) even though he made it interesting at the end" Coach Horn said.

HV feel behind in the bottom of the 2nd inning but bounced back plating 2 runs in the top of the third. Goodman lined a 2 out single to left field to score Paul Buckley (1-3) and Hoffman (2-3).

"Chips (Ross Goodman) came through when we needed him to with a 2 strike count" Coach Horn continued "When Chips puts the ball in play I beleive he has a better chance of getting a hit then not. We need him doing that to continue to improve"

HV scored 2 more runs when YM walked them in. YM tied the game in the bottom of the 5th which ended the scoring. The game was called after the 6th inning due to darkness.

"It was a great night for baseball on a great field (Philadelphia Bible college) with two teams looking to get better and have some fun" Horn said "I had my catcher playing shortstop and my third basemen playing catcher, it was a great time for my boys and that is all that matters"

Goldstein Leads Huntingdon Valley's 11 hit Attack in Win Over Cedarbrook 8-4

Huntingdon Valley (HV) seems to be clicking on all cylinders at the end of the season as it pounded out 11 hits in a 8-4 victory over Host Cedarbrook to push its record to a respectful 9-11. HV, winners of 4 of their last 6 games, seems to be getting timely hits and great defense towards the end of a short baseball season.

"I said it before and I will say it again, We are learning how to finally win games like this but it is a little to late to make the playoffs" Head Coach Evan Horn continued "At this point I want these boys to know what it feels like to win games like this and build for next season"

HV scored in every inning but the last. HV's biggest inning was the 4th when they plated 4 runs and pushed the score to 7-2 at the time. The biggest hit came off the bat of Lower Moreland Senior and Penn State Abington bound Jesse Goldstein. Goldstein ( 2 for 3, double, RBI, Run scored) drove a ball to right field that hit the fence on one hop to plate a run and ignite the inning. Lower Moreland Freshman Jack Titus (1 for 2) also got in on the fun by driving a double to the left field corner

"Jessie seems to have taken to me and Coach Mike Landes (assistant coach) style of hitting" Coach Horn said "Jesse works hard 100% of the time between the lines if its hitting, running or cheering he gives us everything he has. He will be very hard to replace next season that is for sure"

Abington senior Chris Ruhl (7 strikeouts) pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for HV and did a great job on a spot start. Lower Moreland senior Ross Goodman entered the game with 2 runners on base and 2 outs to close out the 5th inning and pitch a scoreless 6th.

"Chris (Ruhl) did a great job today. He really hasn't pitched at all this season but we where shorthanded and I knew he would do a great job. Once the game got close and Chris reached 100 pitches I had to turn the man known as "Chips" (Ross Goodman) and he did what he has done all season and that is pitch great and give me his all"

HV also received 2 hits from Ace pitcher and Penn State Abington Freshman Brian Camp (2 for 3, 2 RBI's) and Lower Moreland Junior Lou Palmer. Camp laced a triple over the right fielders head for his first hit of the season.

"Brian's (Camp) hit not only surprised me but also surprised him. Brian got to third base and looked like he saw a ghost" Horn smiled "Brian is a character but I was happy for him"

HV closes out the season on Tuesday at home agianst the Morelanders

Huntingdon Valley Beats Cedarbrook 2-0 Behind Camp's Shutout and Bobby Leonard's 2 RBI's

Huntingdon Valley (HV) needed a complete game from Brian Camp (7 IP, 6 hits, 9 K's) to beat Cedarbrook (CB) 2-0 in a close, well played baseball game. HV scored runs in their first and last at bats for the only runs of the game

"In these type games you need to make the most of your opportunities" Coach Evan Horn said "We pushed both runs across with one out and runners at third base, Bobby (Leonard) laid down a great bunt and Jared (Licht) read the play perfect"

The game started with HV jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead when Lou Palmer and Jesse Goldstein both singled. Leonard stepped to the plate and drove in the games first run.

Brian Camp worked in and out of trouble for most of the game but seemed to always control his emotions en route to his masterful pitching performence.

"Brian is a type of pitcher that wants the ball and wont quit until the final out" Horn continued "He always gives me a great effort. We are talking about a pitcher that has started 8 games this season and has ended 8 games this season, thats right 8 complete games"

HV scored its final run when Leonard used a squeeze bunt to score Licht.

Camp came out in the bottom of the 7th inning and worked out of a first and second jam to close out the win for HV.

"We are sitting at 8-11 for the season with 7 one run losses, we could very well be sitting in the middle of the playoff race but we didnt really learn how to win until now. I really wish we could start the season over" Horn said "I am losing a few players this season that I really wish could have played another year under me but we cant change bithdays so we must build for the future and that will be a positive Huntingdon Valley baseball team"

HV closes out the season this weekend with 2 home games, Friday and Sunday night

Camp Goes All 12 Innings as Huntingdon Valley Beats The Morelanders in Extra's 6-4

Brain Camp (12 innings pitched, 0 earned runs, 9 strike outs) pitched all 12 innings on Friday night as Huntingdon Valley (HV) used a key hit and run off the bat of Cal Palmer (1 for 4) and a game winning single from Nick Rittler (3 for 6, 2 rbi's) to get past a tough Morlanders team 6-4 on Friday night. Camp improved to 4-0 on the young season and is surly pitching his way to being one of the top hurlers in the league. In a game that took 3 hours and 27 minutes to complete and had more drama then a Broadway show HV found yet another way to win as they moved to 5-3 on the season.

HV scored first in the 1st inning when Jessie Goldstein (1 for 3) was hit by a pitch and then came around to score when Lower Moreland Senior and team captain Jake Madnick smacked a run scoring double over the center fielders head.

The Morlanders scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take, at that point, a commanding 4-1 lead. The Morelanders received a 2 run single off the bat of #2 Snyder and a 2 run double off the bat of #12 Valenza.

HV fought back like it has all season and scored a single run in the 3rd inning when Lower Moreland Junior Rob Hoffman ( 1 for 5, run scored) doubled to left field and scored on a rbi single by Rittler. HV plated 2 more runs in the 5th inning after Holy Ghost Junior Paul Buckley and Lower Morland Senior and team spark plug Jared Licht scored runs.

As the game went back and forth with both teams having several chances to score runs the games most dramatic moment happened in the bottom of the 10th inning when The Morelanders had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Camp struck out the next hitter and got a sharp hit ground ball to C.Palmer at shortstop for the 2nd out. After an intentional walk Camp showed his toughness yet again and struck out the next hitter.

HV won the game in the top of the 12th inning when Buckley lead off with a walk. C.Palmer advanced him to 3rd and a beautiful hit and run. Buckley then scored the winning run when Rittle beat out an infield single. HV tacked onto the total after a bases loaded walk to Madnick.

"I cant say enough about Brian (Camp) to be honest. This young man just wants to win games. He doesn't care if he has to pitch 20 innings he wants to have a chance to help the team win" HV Coach Evan Horn said, "Brian is a sure throwback player, he has great conditioning, takes care of his body, runs everyday between starts, throws long toss and has one "huge" heart. About 12 times I wanted to pull him out because of the high pitch count and Brain kept saying, please don't take me out I have another one (inning) left in my Please Please Please. Yes it was very hard to throw him out their inning after inning but the Horse wanted the ball and deserved to have it"

"We keep fighting back in games and winning them, this is truly building character for us as we expect to win these type of games. These kids have something special here this season and we are riding the momentum at this point"

HV is right back at it with the tough Morlanders on Sunday evening at home 5:00. HV sends Southpaw Ross Goodman to the mound.

Lawlor and Licht Lead Huntingdon Valley Past First Place Horsham 6-3

Huntingdon Valley (HV) played a near perfect game tonight while defeating first place Horsham 6-3. HV received a complete game from Cheltenham Sophomore Matthew Lawlor (7 innings pitched, 8 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts) and an all around super game from Lower Moreland Senior Jared Licht (2 for 2, 2 walks, 2 runs scored and 4 stolen bases).

HV, coming off a tough loss the night before at the hands of Fort Washing, jumped out early in the 1st inning while scoring 3 runs. Licht lead off with a walk, he then stole and scored on a single off the bat from the teams leading hitter Nick Rittler (2 for 4). After a Jesse Goldstein infield single, HV's team captain Jake Madnick sacrificed them both to 2nd and 3rd. Abington's Chris Ruhl drove them both home with a single up the middle to make the score 3-0. HV turned the lead over to Lawlor who really was only in trouble in the 2nd inning when he worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs to only give up 1 run.

Paul Buckley drove in the 4th run with a key 2 out single scoring Ruhl who singled and stole second with 2 outs. The 5th run for HV was scored by LaSalle's Rich Brazukas (1 for 2) when he scored on a single by Licht. The 6th run was also with 2 outs when Licht, yet again, singled and stole 2nd base. Rittler then drove him in with a gaping double.

Lawlor gave up single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 7th innings and was in complete control the entire night.

"Well we are now 7 games into the season and it is someone different every night" Head Coach Evan Horn said "We are playing really tough baseball, Horsham is the best team in the league (7-2 record) and we came out not scared at all and played HV baseball, single, steal a base and drive him in" Horn continued "Lawlor pitched like a true veteran tonight, he wasnt nervous and really picked us up, he was flat out awesome" Horn continued to give his pitcher praise "The kid smiled between innings and really had the team at ease, what a great job Lawlor did tonight he gave it his all and a pound of crispy bacon, I'm looking forward to coaching him for the next 3 seasons thats for sure"

"Our leadership is awesome, Licht, Goldstein and Madnick have been great, they come to play every game like its their last and it is starting to show with the results in the win colum. HV is having fun!!!"

HV plays Friday night away at The Morelanders when it sends team Ace Brian Camp(3-0) to bump.

Goodman's Complete Game Again Not Enough as Huntingdon Valley Losses to Fort Washington 2-1

Huntingdon Valley (HV) received another complete game from Lower Moreland's Southpaw Ross Goodman (7 Innings Pitched, 4 Hits) but it still wasn't enough as Fort Washington (Fort) used small ball to beat HV 2-1. HV received a huge game at the plate from Abington's Chris Ruhl (2-3, 2 Doubles) and Holy Ghost's Paul Buckey (2-3, rbi) but it wasn't enough to for HV to pull the game out. HV had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th inning when they had a Ruhl on 3rd and 1 out but couldn't push the run across. The loss put HV at 3-3 on the season.

The game started like it has before with Goodman on the mound. Goodman throws a lot of strikes low in the strike zone and gets a lot of ground outs. Once again the offense didn't score enough for the Goodman.

HV only run of the game came from a single off the bat of Buckley who fought off an 0-2 count which plated Bobby Leonard.

"Ahhh, all I can say is that I feel terrible again for Goodman, all this kid does is take the bump and give it his all and a box of chocolates. When he pitches it is almost like he isn't there he is so smooth. This is two straight games that with a key hit here or there he is 2-0 but it hasn't gone his way and he is 0-2 and that just stinks" 1st year Coach Evan Horn continued "Ruhl came up big at the plate and the more I think about the moves I made in the bottom of the 7th this loss can easily be pinned on me but we are all a team and we lose and win together. These kids are special and anything less then a win is unacceptable"

HV dosent have time to even think about the tough loss as they play undeafeated Horsham tomorrow night.

Camp Puts Out Fire in Complete Game Effort in Winning 2nd Game of Doubleheader 5-3 Against Warminster

Huntingdon Valley (HV) bounced back after losing the first game of a doubleheader against Warminster behind Ace pitcher Brian Camp (7 IP, 5 Hits, 0 Walks, 5 strikeouts) 5-3. HV went out in the second game with something to prove and that they did. They scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning and really never looked back. Team Captain Jake Madnick knocked in 2 runs and Lou Palmer sacrifice bunted in another. Warminster dominated in the first game while walking away with a 8-0 victory. HV sits tied for 3rd place in the league with a 3-2 record.

HV came out flat in the first game and really showed little life while Warminster pitcher had little trouble in defeating them.

HV received a huge day from centerfielder Jesse Goldstein with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and an RBI while winning the 2nd game 5-3.

"Again this was another team effort that gets it done" Coach Evan Horn said "The first game we where very flat and but the kids still tried everything possible to get something going, that shows the team leadership we have here. Even when things are going bad we still are trying our hardest to get something in the positive direction. Warminsters pitcher worked ahead on almost every batter and had his curveball breaking for strikes. Take your hat off to him he was awesome. Things dont always work out for the better but when the effort is there you cant complain"

Coach Horn had this to say about the effort in the 2nd game "The second game was more like HV baseball. I put the horse on the mound and like he has done a total of 2 other times he just gives me everything he has. Brian Camp is one of the best pitchers in this league hands down, he gives everything he has and a bowl of soup. The kid is great to coach and better to talk to between innings. A flat out great kid. What cant be left out is the incredable play I am getting from the "J" brothers. Jesse (Goldstein), Jared (Licht) and Jake (Madnick). These boys are playing with a chip on thier shoulders. They see a great thing here and want to ride the wave"

HV plays Tuesday at home against a tough Fort Washington team. HV will send Ross Goodman to the mound.

Huntingdon Valley Lets Goodman's Gem Go To Waste in 3-1 Loss to Horsham in Extra Innings

Huntingdon Valley Lets Goodman's Gem Go To Waste in 3-1 Loss to Horsham in Extra Innings

Huntingdon Valley (HV) received a complete game pitching performance from Ross Goodman (8 innings, 3 Strikeouts) to only see it go to waste as missed opportunity's lead to a 3-1 extra innings loss to Horsham. HV had more then enough chances to put this game in the win colum to only see a tough Horsham team steal it from them.

Horsham started the scoring in the 3rd inning when #22 Benji Abercrombie knocked in #13 Anthony Mumenthaler. HV fought back, like it seems to do often in the early parts of this season, and scored when #16 Matthew Lawlor scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

As the game went back and forth both pitchers seemed to settle in to a nice flow. Horsham's #5 Zach Crim found his grove and was at some points untouchable.

Both teams had a great chance to score in the 6th inning. Horsham stranded runner on 3rd after HV's Paul Buckley started what turned out to be a 6-4-3 double play. HV turned 3 double plays on the day one of which was an incredible play by Chris Ruhl (1 for 1, Double, Stolen Base).

HV's best chance to win the game came in the bottom of the 7th inning when with one out HV had a runner on third base to only leave him stranded there to close out the inning.Horsham but the game away in the top of the 8th inning when with 1 out #11 Ryan Kelly hit 2 run single. HV had nothing to answer with in the bottom of the inning.

"Well you cant expect to win every game but this one is hard to swallow, my boys feel that every game is theirs and if it doesn't go their way they aren't happy" Coach Evan Horn said, "Ross Goodman takes the ball and throws a gem like that and let it go to waste....that stinks" Horn continued "We all have the same goal here as a team and that is to do what ever it takes to win games. These kids give me all they have and that's all I can ask for. Goodman gave me everything he had plus a bag of chips and that's ok but it would have been even better with the Win"

HV plays a doubleheader on Saturday at Warminster.

Ruhl's single Pushes Huntingdon Valley to a 7-6 Victory Over Fort Washington

Ruhl's single Pushes Huntingdon Valley to a 7-6 Victory Over Fort Washington

Huntingdon Valley (HV) stayed perfect on the season with a surprising 7-6 victory over Fort Washington (FW) on Sunday night. HV seems to be winning the close games early in the season which could lead to more down the road. Brian Camp went the distance on the mound for the 2nd straight game going 7 innings, allowing 9 hits walking 5 and striking out 8. HV's 11 hit attack was lead by Cheltenham Sophomore Matthew Meyers (2 for 3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI's), Matt Hyman (2 for 3).

HV feel behind 2-0 after the first inning but never stopped playing baseball.

The top of the 2nd inning HV put up 4 runs to take a 4-2 lead. Lou Palmer lead off with a single which followed a Hyman single. Cal Palmer then tried a suicide squeeze but FW cut down L. Palmer at the plate. Meyers then doubled home the first run of the game for HV. Jack Titus then walked to load the bases. Jesse Goldstein walked in the 2nd run of the inning. Jared Licht singled in the 3rd run. Paul Buckley followed with a Fielders Choice to make it a 4-2 lead.

FW scored single runs in the 4th and 5th innings to tie the game at 6.

HV took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning. Jesse Goldstein singled to start the inning. Licht bunted Goldstein to 2nd. After a Buckley Sacrafice fly, Chris Ruhl came up with the biggest hit of the season to date. A run scoring single down the left field line. The top of the 7th inning was a hairy one for HV. Where with 1 out FW put runners on 1st and 2nd. The tough right hander then struck out the last 2 batters to put the game in the win colum for HV.

"Here we go again" an excited Coach Evan Horn said, "It seems like it can be someone different everynight for us with the big hit tonight it was the "Big Cat" Ruhl's turn". Horn continued "We are playing with such confidence so early in the season, I hope it continues because I know how hard baseball can be on the mind once things go bad. I really like the fact that the kids are responding to me"

HV is hosting Horsham on tuesday night at 6:00

Huntingdon Valley Opens Season With 5-2 Victory Over Roslyn Behind Camp and Madnick

The Huntingdon Valley American Leagion (HV) opened up its season with a hard fought extra inning victory over a game Roslyn team 5-2 in 8 innings. Brian Camp lead the way for HV with a complete game (8 innings pitched, 4 hits, 0 walks, 0 earned runs, 9 strikeouts) pitching performance. Jake Madnick (2 for 3, 2 RBI's) knocked in the winning run for HV with a 2 run single in the top of the 8th inning.

The first 3 innings where as fast as a major league game could be. Both pitchers where dealing at a high level with many strikeouts.

HV opened up the scoring in the top of the 4th inning. Back to back singles off the bats of Madnick and Chris Ruhl (2 for 5, 2 RBI's) followed by a sacrifice bunt from Jared Licht (0 for 3, 2 runs scored). With 2nd and 3rd Matt Hyman worked a walk to load the bases. Callen Palmer (1 for 3, 1 RBI) then singled to centerfield to plate the first run of the season and game for HV.

Roslyn scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a 2-1 lead

HV tied the game in the top of the 7th inning. Licht reached first base after being hit by a pitch then stole 2nd base. Madnick sacrificed Licht to 3rd base. Ruhl then hit a hard ground ball to 2nd base to plate the tying run.

The game went into extra innings where HV took over the game. In the top of the 8th inning Ross Goodman (1 for 3) singled to left field, stole 2nd base and advanced to 3rd on an error off the bat of Jesse Goldstein (1 for 3, run scored). After a Licht walk to load the bases, Madnick came through with the "Big Hit" a 2 run scoring single to make it a 4-2 game. Ruhl added another RBI single to make it 5-2.

The bottom of the 8th inning was another brilliant pitching performance by Camp as he faced 4 batters to end the game.

"All I can say is what a game and if this is what I have to look forward to this season I might need a heart transplant" Said Coach Evan Horn, who was coaching his first game as Head Coach "When you have a leader in team captain Jake Madnick anything is possible. This young man comes to play and is tough as nails, he has these boys following his lead"

Horn couldn't stop talking about Camp's pitching performance "Camp is a true throwback gamer, he wants the ball and dosent like to give it up. I trust Brian as a pitcher and cant beleive the amount of fire this kid has"

HV looks to continue winning when it hosts Fort Washington on Sunday night at Home.
