Lawlor and Meyers Lead The Way As Huntingdon Valley Senior Legion Starts Season 3-0

Huntingdon Valley (HV) used a great pitching performence from Matt Lawlor (6 2/3 IP, 8 K's) and a 2-Run Home Run off the bat of slugger Matt Meyers (2 for 3, HR, 2 rbi's) to get past Cedarbrook (CB) 3-2 on Tuesday night. The game came down to the final out when CB had the bases loaded and 2 outs but HV closed the door behind team closer Paul Buckley (1/3 IP, 1K). With the win HV has started the season 3-0 by winning 2 games by 1 run and 1 game by 2 runs.

"Lawlor was great tonight and in command of his fastball" Coach Evan Horn said, "I think he get a little rattled in the last inning after a couple of close pitches that didnt go his way. As he grows as a pitcher he will learn to pitch through that situation but he was just on the money tonight"

HV scored first when Meyers scored on a single off the bat of Rafael Fernandez (2 for 3, RBI). HV was keep in check by CB pitching until the top of the 6th inning when they scored twice. Jake Yannessa (1 for 3) singled and came around to score when Meyers crushed his first homerun of the season over the leftfield fence.

"Meyers has been great all season for us" Horn said, "Any given at bat he can score himself that is for sure. Matt is a great number four hitter that teams are going to have to start to worry about. His growth as a player is very easily seen. His personality well thats something you have to see to believe" Horn said laughing
CB struck twice in the bottom of the 7th and had the bases loaded and 2 outs when Coach Horn called on his closer Buckley to shut the door.

"Its not a joke anymore" Horn said about Buckley being the closer, "He can really throw the ball when he needs to get an out and tonight he did it again. I will be calling on him every game the rest of the way to close games out. Lets just call it "Buck Time"

HV has its hands full the rest of the week. Thursday home against The Morelanders, Saturday away at Horsham and a doubleheader on the road against an always tough Roslyn Blue Claws.
