Meyers Leads 13 Hit Attack as Huntingdon Valley Beats Southampton 9-2

Huntingdon Valley (HV) used 13 hits to beat Southampton (SH) 9-2 tonight in a Senior Legion Baseball Game. Leading the way for HV was Matt Meyers (4 for 4, 3 RBI's) and Jake Yannessa (2 for 4, 2 runs scored, RBI). Meyers raised his batting averge to .643 while Yanessa raised his to .447. If the 2 hits where not enough Yannessa also pitched 6 innings and stuck out 11 to raise his record to 3-1 on the season.

"Ness (Yannessa) is one hell of a player" an excited Coach Evan Horn said, "The kid plays with one speed and that is fast. I always tell his father that I just love to watch him play. He can easily be one of the top players in this league. He hits, runs and pitches as well as anyone. I love watching him pitch because I know it is going to be a special performance and anything is possible"

HV didn't start its scoring until the 3rd inning when with 2 outs Robert Hoffman (1 for 4) and Yannessa both singled  and both scored when Meyers singled them in.

HV plated 2 more runs in the 4th inning as well. Mario Incollingo started the rally with a single and after a great sacrifice bunt by Matt Hyman (1 for 1) Jordan Pocrass (1 for 2, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI) blasted a ground rule double to drive him in. Pocrass scored when Lou Palmer (2 for 3, 2 RBI's, run scored) singled him in.

HV biggest inning of the game was the 5th inning when it scored 3 runs. Pocrass started the rally with a walk which was followed by a singles off the bat of Cal Palmer (1 for 2) and twin brother Lou Palmer to load the bases. Hoffman hit a sacrifice fly to score Pocrass and the other 2 runs scored when Meyers drove them in.

"Yes, it was a complete team effort tonight" Coach Horn said, "This is the kind of game that makes me feel like I have these boys all on the same page. It is going to take these kind of games that might get us far in the playoffs. It is up to the boys all I can do is make the line-up"

HV plays again on Thursday away against the 1st place Fort Washington.
