Huntingdon Valley Beats Fort Washington Behind 6 Run 1st Inning 8-6

Huntingdon Valley (HV) used a 6 run 1st inning in defeating Fort Washington (FW) 8-6 in a Senior Legion baseball game. HV pounded out 12 hits behind 2 hits a piece from Jake Yannessa (2 for 3, 2 runs scored, RBI), Matt Meyers (2 for 4, Homerun, 2 RBI's, 2 Runs Scored), Jake Madnick (2 for 4, Double, RBI), Paul Buckley (2 for 4, Double, RBI) and Chris Ruhl (2 for 2, RBI). Picking up the win for HV on the mound was Matt Lawlor (4 IP) who raised his record to 2-3 and Ross Goodman (3 IP, 4 K's) was credited with a save.

"Anytime you can get 12 hits against The Fort you have to be super happy" an excited Coach Evan Horn said, "Beating Fort is like beating the Yankees in the majors. It is almost an honor to beat them. They are always really good and always well coached. This win in the biggest since I have been here that is for sure"

HV jumped out with 6 runs before FW came to bat when Lou Palmer (1 for 4) singled and was advanced to 2nd when Robert Hoffman bunted him over. With 1 out Yannessa blasted a run scoring triple and came into score when Meyers singled him in to make the score 2-0. After a ground out and walk to Nick Rittler, Paul Buckley hit a run scoring double to make it 3-0. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs Ruhl smoked a single down the 3rd base line to make it 4-0. The biggest hit of the game came off the bat of the ever improving Cal Palmer who drove a 2 run single to centerfield to cap the scoring and make it a 6-0 game.

"After an inning like the 1st all you can say to yourself is please end the game now because you know the other team still has 7 at bats left" Coach Horn said, "I kept saying that they wouldn't quit and of course they didn't getting as close as 2 runs on two different occasions. They will never quit as I feel my team wouldn't in the same situation"

FW scored 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to make the score 7-5. HV's 8th run came when Power Hitting Meyers blasted a dead centerfield for his 3rd Home run of the season.
"Mr Nasty (Meyers) is having an MVP season for us" Coach Horn said "Every ti
me he is at the plate we are expecting something to happen. He has become one heck of a baseball player this season. The sky is the limit for him"

Goodman entered the game in the 5th inning and pitched out of a jam right away when with 2 outs and a runner on 3rd he struck out the tying run. In the 6th inning FW had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs when Goodman got a pop up to Yannessa at shortstop. With a 2 run lead and the game in the balance Goodman set down FW 1-2-3 in the home 7th for his 2nd save of the season with 2 Strikeouts.

"Ross (Goodman) is having a great season for us" Horn said, "He seems to be well rested and is always in key situations for us. It is great to see him succeeding"

HV is home on sunday against Cedarbrook 1:00 Lower Moreland High School
